The presidential election this year is expected to elect leaders who will pay attention to the fate of the minorities. It was disclosed by Shohib Essir, President of the Indonesian-Australian Student Association (PPIA) Canberra to RRI correspondent in Australia. According to him, a number of Indonesian students in the Australian Capital Territory often hold forum to listen to the aspirations and share an overview of Indonesia's future leaders.
Issues on violence and the curtailment of the right to worship according to the people’s beliefs have recently emerged, causing concern among the Indonesian academicians. Therefore, they are looking forward to a leader who can fight and bring back the spirit of the nations’ motto Bhineka Tunggal Ika or “Unity in Diversity”.

"So the minority is really important. We wish that there will be no more violence to the minorities, no more banning on the place of worship; they can worship according to their beliefs. And this is in accordance with Indonesian motto of Unity in Diversity.”
While asked about the participation in the upcoming presidential election, Shohib Essir said the Indonesian students in Canberra are ready to succeed the election and the democratic process while hoping the next presidential election will be of good quality towards a dignified nation.
